DREAMS Campus
All 4,800 K-6 students in the Encinitas Union School District visit Farm Lab's DREAMS (Design, Research, Engineering, Art, Math & Science) campus annually. Depending on grade level, students are on site for one, two, three, or five day eco-literacy and/or wellness based learning experiences.
We integrate indoor and outdoor, project based learning that is phenomena driven and rooted in the next generation science standards. DREAMS educators model design thinking and the integration of indoor and outdoor education. All curriculum directly supports UN sustainability goals and integrates the CA Environmental Principles and Concepts. We use the 5E model as a delivery framework and ensure access and agency for all visiting students.
DREAMS educational programming received both the Banner Award from Classrooms of the Future, an innovation award from the Center for Ecoliteracy in 2019, and was highlighted as a model in student centered education in Dr. Katie Matin's 'Evolving Education' published in 2021. In 2022, the campus was honored with the prestigious CSBA Golden Bell Award in the Climate Change Innovation category.
